As serious as he may seem, even Pastor Tyler has a soft spot when he is asked to do something for our youth. During our 2024 VBS, we had a skit each night. During the final night of VBS, Pastor Tyler was asked to "star" in the skit as King David. He went above and beyond to bring not only the children of VBS joy, but the adults of the crowd as well.
In other news, our annual change drive collected during VBS, raised a total of $1,168.77. As is tradition in the past, it was girls vs. boys. If the girls brought more change than the boys, Pastor Tyler was in the hot seat for the dunk tank, likewise if the boys brought more change, then Ms. Ashley was in the hot seat for the dunk tank. Well, the girls showed those boys who was boss! Pastor Tyler found himself the "target" of several throws from the ladies of the crowd and many hits to the bullseye. Ashley was relieved, she'd been in the hot seat for the last probably three years.
The money raised during VBS will go to benefit the mission work by Missionary Boyd Collins with Golden Land Baptist Ministries in Kenya. To find out more about their ministry click here! GLBM Facebook GLBM Website

This year’s VBS theme, SHINE!, was all about movie genres and Bible stories that fit those genres. On Monday the genre was mystery, and the Bible mystery concerned the house of Dagon (I Sanuel 5). Tuesday’s genre was romance, and what
Bible story is more romantic than that of Ruth and Bozaz? (Ruth). Wednesday’s movie genre was comedy, and the Bible story that fit this genre concerned Balaam’s donkey (Numbers 22). The genre Thursday was action, and the Bible story was about David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17). We ended the week with a musical as the genre, and took a look at the story of the leaping king (2 Samuel 6).
For VBS, the church was decorated to resemble a movie theater with a curtain, a marquee, a red carpet, ticket booths, a theater lobby with a refreshment stand and a popcorn machine, and lots of movie memorbilia scattered throughout the classrooms and hallways. There were giant posters in the vestibule depicting the five Bible stories for the week and other Bible story posters throughout the church.
There were memory verse reminders with a lighted keychain that the kids could earn throughout the week as they memorized and recited their memory verses. There were skits each evening during the opening to introduce the kids to the upcoming night’s Bible lesson. During the opening the kids also learned and sang the songs, “SHINE!” and “Donkey Delight.” There were challenging games for the kids to play including human foosball, an obstacle course, parachute games, and the kids’ favorite water games - kiddy pool kickball, water balloons, and a slip ‘n’ slide. There was delicious food served each evening including corn dogs, tacos in a bag, pizza, ice cream, cookies, and chips.
The mission this year was helping Boyd Collins, a missionary to Kenya, raise money to build a church there in Kenya. He came and talked to the kids a couple of evenings and showed them a slide show about Kenya. The kids brought in pennies each evening to go toward this worthy cause. The boys were competing against the girls to see who could bring in the most pennies. Throughout the week, the boys won once, the girls won twice, there was a tie one evening, and the girls were victorious in the end. Ashley took a very deep sigh of relief and thanked the girls profusely. Since the girls won, it was Pastor Tyler instead of Ashley who got dunked in the Hillbilly Bathtub dunk tank. Every girl/woman got a turn at trying to put Pastor Tyler in the tank. He was such a good sport about it all. He even let the boys take turns if they wanted to.
Our attendance this year was amazing. The attendance for Monday was 232, Tuesday was 257, Wednesday was 223, Thursday was 230, and Friday was 243. The average attendance was 153 kids and 83 adults.
VBS is always a lot of fun, food, and fellowship, but the main reason we put in all that work and energy is to reach the kids with the good news of Christ. Praise the Lord! we had nine kids accept Jesus as their Savior during VBS.
I think that I am safe in saying that everyone associated with VBS this year was certainly blessed. My advice to the staff is to rest for the next 51 weeks and be ready to jump in with both feet and do it again next year.

Beach Sunday, celebrated on the July 14th, recognized the meeting of the donation goals for VBS fundraising and was a fun kick off for the upcoming VBS week. Many were dressed in Hawaiian attire and the menu consisted of smoked BBQ sandwiches with all the trimmings and a variety of dessert items.
